Cllr Cedwien Brown
Ward - Trinity
A little about me…
I am Cedwien Brown and I am married to Ray and we have two daughters, Emma and Victoria. My parents were Eric and Gladys Panter who were both very well known in Rothwell. My Dad was a Rothwell boy and was a very popular musical entertainer locally. My Mum was Welsh and after she married my Dad and moved to Rothwell, she belonged to a number of local organisations including the Townswomen's Guild and the United Reformed Church (or the Congregational Church as it was back then).
I've lived in Rothwell all my life. I attended both the Infant and Junior schools before going to Kettering High School for Girls (which my Dad always called St Trinians!). I've only ever moved from one side of Rothwell to the other to live. I started my working life as a hair stylist before joining Oxford University Press, where I have now been for over 30 years. I work in our Primary Education Team as a sales consultant and have covered most of the East of England during the last 16 years in this particular role. I really enjoy my job and love the fact that we're helping children to develop a lifelong love of reading.
Outside of work my hobbies are cooking, rugby union, motorsport, music and reading of course. I've also been fortunate to have done quite a bit of travelling over the years and I enjoy visiting different countries and experiencing their culture and food. We also like to visit our local restaurants and enjoy socialising with our friends.
Why I wanted to become a Councillor?
I wanted to give something back to Rothwell and my Grandad was a Councillor here for quite some time back in the day, so I think I have inherited it from him. I also think that, because I've lived here all my life, I have a balanced view of the past, the present and of future aspirations for the town. – I don't want us to be stuck in a time warp but I also want to ensure we preserve our history and heritage. I also like to help people if I can.
What Rothwell means to me?
In a word – everything! It's my home town and the place I look forward to getting back to at the end of each day if I'm out and about with my work.
We have a wonderful community spirit here and I love our history – the buildings and our Rowell Fair. In many ways we are quite unique and it makes me very proud to live here. I love the way our town has also developed into a renowned place to visit for the brilliant, independent restaurants that we now have.
