Rothwell Town Council

A little about me….

I am Ray Davis and I am married to Sharon. We have three children who have all grown up and are making their own way in life now. I have lived in Rothwell for twenty years and discovered Rothwell after getting lost on the way back to Newport Pagnell from Market Harborough. After parking in the Market Square and having a look around we both decided that we felt at home here and eventually moved to Rothwell.

I spent twenty-seven years in the army after joining at fifteen straight from school. Throughout my service I was able to travel extensively around the world, these included tours in combat theatre's in various countries. I eventually retired from the army after reaching a Senior Warrant Officer rank and found employment within the Prison Service.

After serving at a couple of low category Prisons, I found myself at a Category A prison working with sixteen of the worst offenders in the prison system. After working with these offenders for five years, I became the establishments Audit Manager and was eventually head hunted to help form and audit team for the Border Force and Immigration Service. I travelled the UK with the audit team, visiting Immigrations centres and airports ensuring that security and all aspects of auditing was correct and secure.

I retired from the Prison Service and became the Manager of Rothwell Arts and Heritage Centre. I spent five happy years at the centre and learnt so much about Rothwell's history and the interesting people within Rothwell.

Outside of work, my hobbies include glass engraving, I am a member of the guild of glass engravers, my family and I play with various pipe and drum bands, these include The Seaforth Highlanders in Leicester, The Nene Valley Pipe Band in Northampton and the International pipe Band called the Southern Highlanders which travels around the country and abroad playing at International Tattoo's and events and celebrations

This year has been a great year for me, as I was elected Mayor of Rothwell and myself and fellow Councillors have managed to resurrect the Rothwell Branch of the Royal British legion which was disbanded in 1962.

Why I wanted to become a Councillor?

Having managed the Arts and Heritage centre for five years, I wanted to make more contributions to Rothwell. Being a Councillor was the best way to do this, because I could have a say in Rothwell's future, it also allowed me to help people which was important to me. Being able to make a contribution to Rothwell's future is extremely rewarding. Preserving Rothwell's history and heritage is very important for the younger generation and community, for its these people which will ensure that Rothwell continues to be the place live and be a part of.

What Rothwell mean to me?

Rothwell, I believe is a place that holds its history and heritage close and has its future in its hands. To be part of that is a privilege. The community spirit is wonderful and when called upon volunteers come forward in droves. Its buildings are historical and there is Rothwell Fair and the Proclamation which makes Rothwell a proud place to be part of and to live.
